They Hatched!

Butterfly # 1 taking off.
Grandpa Bill bringing the 2 cocoons for the girls to watch.
Grandpa explaining the process.
The girls listening intently.

Grandpa Bill and Grandma Kim got caterpillar eggs from a milkweed plant and put them in a glass container for the girls to watch hatch. The eggs hatched into caterpillars. The caterpillars spun themselves into cocoons and Grandpa Bill brought the cocoons over for the girls to watch. We have been watching them for several days and FINALLY they hatched yesterday. Kent came home at 2:30 yesterday and they hadn't hatched. When we got home from school there were 2 butterflies in the jar. We took them outside and let them go. The caterpillars made a trip to each of the girls' classrooms and they enjoyed watching the cocoons change into butterflies. Thank you Grandpa and Grandma. We learned a LOT!!!

That's really cool! Brighton found a caterpillar today and we put it in a jar. I'm not sure, though, that he's going to make it - Brighton shakes the jar to see where he's at!
